What to Expect
At ColaPsych Connections, we strive to make the counseling process feel welcoming, supportive, and easy to understand for both children and their families. Whether your child is beginning therapy for the first time or returning after previous services, our goal is to create a safe space where growth, healing, and connection can occur.
01
Getting Started
Your journey begins with an intake appointment, where we learn about your child's strengths, concerns, history, and goals for therapy. For children under age 10, we prefer that parents attend the intake without their child whenever possible. This gives caregivers the opportunity to speak openly about concerns and share important background information in a comfortable setting. It also helps us gather the information needed to create the best plan for your child. For adolescents and young adults, we typically include them in the intake process so they can share their thoughts, concerns, and goals from the start.
03
For Parents and Caregivers
Parents and caregivers play an important role in the therapeutic process. Depending on the age and needs of the client, sessions may include: •Parent consultations •Caregiver coaching and support •Progress updates •Skill-building strategies for home and school •Collaboration regarding behavioral and emotional concerns While confidentiality is respected, parents will always be informed of any safety concerns or significant issues affecting their child's well-being. As appropriate for their age and developmental level, adolescents and young adults are encouraged to actively participate in their treatment and share their thoughts, concerns, and goals.
02
The Process
Every child and young adult is unique, which means therapy is tailored to their individual needs. Sessions may include: •Play therapy for younger children •Creative activities such as art, storytelling, or games •Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques •Emotional regulation and coping skills development •Social skills training •Parent and caregiver support •Family-focused interventions when appropriate •Trauma-informed treatment approaches Our therapists work to build a trusting relationship that helps clients feel comfortable expressing their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. As therapy progresses, treatment goals and approaches may be adjusted to best meet each client's needs and support continued growth.

What it Looks Like
Progress in therapy can look different for every child and family. Some common outcomes include: •Improved emotional regulation •Increased confidence and self-esteem •Healthier communication skills •Better coping with stress, anxiety, or life transitions •Stronger family relationships •Improved social and academic functioning •Greater ability to express thoughts and feelings Growth takes time, and therapy is a process. We celebrate each step forward and work alongside families throughout the journey.

Child and Teen Therapy
At Cola Psych Connections, we provide individualized therapy for children and teens ages 3 through 18 in a warm, supportive, and engaging environment. We help young people navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral concerns, emotional regulation, social difficulties, school-related stress, life transitions, trauma, grief, and self-esteem issues. Using developmentally appropriate and evidence-based approaches, including play-based interventions for younger children, we work alongside families to nurture emotional well-being, build resilience, and empower children and teens to thrive at home, at school, and in their communities.

Young Adult Therapy
The transition from adolescence to adulthood brings exciting opportunities as well as unique challenges. At Cola Psych Connections, we provide compassionate, individualized therapy for youth and young adults ages 17 through 22 as they navigate academic pressures, career decisions, relationships, independence, identity development, anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and life transitions. Our goal is to create a supportive space where young adults can gain insight, strengthen coping skills, build self-confidence, and develop the tools needed to thrive emotionally, socially, and professionally as they move into the next stage of life.

Psychological Testing
At Cola Psych Connections, we provide comprehensive psychological testing for children, adolescents, and young adults to gain a deeper understanding of learning, behavior, emotions, and overall functioning. Each evaluation is tailored to the individual's unique needs and referral concerns, helping to clarify diagnoses, identify strengths, and guide effective treatment and educational planning. We assess for concerns such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disorders, intellectual disabilities, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, personality disorders, and other emotional or behavioral conditions. Our goal is to provide meaningful answers, practical recommendations, and a clear path forward for individuals and families.
